By sponsoring a disabled child for K25,000 per year you will be paying for life changing therapies, therapies that are going to help this child to become a valued member of society, someone who feels needed and valued and appreciated.

This child will be entitled to come to the therapy centre every week and partake in a program of development specifically designed for them.

The Hydrotherapy Centre was created by parents for parents, our particular expertise does not come for university degrees or years of experience, it comes from being an advocate for a disabled child. Knowing what our children need and what we expect has helped us design a centre that is truly catered for special people.

Our aim is to provide a safe and welcoming environment where you as a family can support your disabled child, get together with other families and find what really works for you. Through our extensive network of specialists we can cater for your every need and bring the help to you.

Child selection

There are two different options for you in deciding which child you wish to sponsor, in Zambia the rate of children with disabilities is extraordinarily high, this is due to poor healthcare, disease related disabilities from malaria, TB, HIV, poor nutrition... the list goes on.

We have identified children within Lusaka who are most needy of extra support, these children are in special homes where their health is managed but alternative therapy is not available. The Hydrotherapy Centre has travelled to these institutions and evaluated the children to see which ones are suitable for our programme. We have drawn up a list of these children who desperately need sponsorship. Should you wish, we can select a child from our list for you.

The second option is for you to identify a child yourself, these children can be within your own community, a staff member of yours who has a child with special needs (you will be surprised by the results if you ask your staff). Perhaps you have a friend or family member whose child needs support or maybe you would like to go into the community yourself to select a child.

Therapies

We have a number of therapies available to the child all conducted by certified professionals – hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, rebound therapy, play therapy and holistic therapy. A programme will be individually created for each child, we will conduct an assessment of the child’s needs and decide which therapies they will benefit from. A child may do a number of different therapies over the course of the year or we will focus on one or two therapies dependant on their abilities and the severity of their condition. We can cater for intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities and general health and well being.

Frequency

A sponsored child is entitled to visit the centre once a week on a selected day, our driver will collect the child and their carer (or one member of their immediate family who is over the age of 18) from within a 20km radius of The Hydrotherapy Centre and return them home afterwards. Dependent on the number of sponsored children we see that day, the driver may collect more than one child and return them after all the children have had their sessions. This allows us to manage the time spent in traffic and ensure that we are able to collect as many children as possible on a given day. A playground and snacks/refreshments will be available for those children who are waiting their turn.
